Recently, a patient came to us after exhausting most conventional treatment options. The child had sensory issues, hyperactivity, speech issues, and autism. Initially unsure about giving homeopathy to his child, the parent was reassured after we explained what homeopathy is and how it has helped many individuals, not only with autism but other ailments as well.
Last week, at the first follow-up, the parents were pleased to see positive changes in their child after starting homeopathic treatment. They observed that the child was more receptive, less hyperactive, and showing noticeable improvements.
The parents asked why there is so much misinformation about homeopathy ? We explained that misconceptions often arise from a lack of understanding and premature judgments by those who have not studied the system thoroughly. In India, we have a dedicated Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy). To become a homeopathic doctor, one must complete a 5½-year degree course after 12th grade, covering both medical and homeopathic subjects.
At Dr. Joshi’s Center for Autism, we educate people about the benefits of homeopathy and the importance of therapy in autism. We have seen significant improvements through integrated treatment approaches. Homeopathy is a holistic form of treatment that is safe and effective.
The Process of Homeopathic Treatment
Homeopathic treatment requires a detailed case history to understand the disorder and the individual’s unique symptoms. This comprehensive approach ensures the selection of the right remedy.
For example, we treated a child from another country who was facing sensory issues, limited food choices, and hyperactivity. The parents, both working, struggled to manage the child's needs, which was affecting their mental health. Despite receiving all required therapies, the child continued to have severe behavioral issues, including running away and a lack of danger awareness.
We selected a homeopathic remedy after reviewing the case history and assessment reports. Homeopathic medicines are made from natural substances and undergo a process called potentiation, involving serial dilutions. The more diluted a medicine, the higher its potency. The remedy is chosen based on symptom totality and is matched to the individual’s characteristics, known as the simillimum.
Contrary to some myths, disease diagnosis is crucial in homeopathy. The diagnosis helps in identifying the characteristic symptoms necessary for selecting the right remedy. After selecting the appropriate medicine and potency, the treatment begins, typically with monthly follow-ups to assess progress and adjust doses or remedies as needed.
Case Study: Homeopathic Remedies
An example of a homeopathic remedy is Chamomilla, derived from the plant kingdom. It is characterised by marked irritability and sensitivity to impressions, with symptoms improving when the child is carried. In contrast, Pulsatilla, another remedy, also involves sensitivity to impressions but manifests as mild, pitiable crying rather than frenzied tantrums.
By selecting remedies based on symptom totality, homeopathy provides healing from the core in a rapid, gentle manner without side effects. Accurate case history and symptom documentation are essential for the homeopath to determine the best treatment.
Conclusion
For accurate information on homeopathic treatment, always consult a qualified professional. Misconceptions often arise from those lacking expertise. Give your child the helping hand of homeopathy to bring about a positive change.
